I Was Just Thinking???

I was watching a special report this morning on the news about the Oscars on Sunday night. I have always enjoyed watching the Oscars. Since I was a child I have always been starry eyed when it came to movie stars. However, in recent years the stars have faded from my eyes.

Charles Gibson, of Good Morning America, was talking to Wolfgang Puck about the Governor's Ball that follows the Academy Awards. The famous chef said they had $30,000 worth of caviar and $40,000 worth of truffles and that is just the beginning. There will be 1600 people who will rush into this room that has been painstakingly decorated from floor to ceiling just for this occasion, wolf down this delicious meal and then rush on to another party. I don't even want to hazard a guess what the total cost of this one party is. Put them all together and I imagine the cost would be in the millions.

Now, many of these celebrities are very critical of our government and the war in Iraq. They complain about better ways for that money to be spent. It is just amazing to me that they don't seem to have a problem with the millions that are being spent to cater to their excesses. I don't why anyone would expect them to put their money where their mouth is! By the way, I know that a few celebrities have been generous to various causes. BUT, they do enjoy all the lights and attention that is focused on them. Giving to disaster relief or some other cause like that makes them look good. If they were to give up all the trappings of Oscar night, that would really make a statement. But in the words of a famous philosopher, "That will only happen when pigs fly!"
