In yesterday's Atlanta Journal Constitution there was a front page story about the Atlanta City schools.
It seems they have resurrected a once dead tradition.....recess. OOPS, but you can't call it that. Oh no, they prefer a different nomenclature: "unstructured break time" or "wellness initiative".
I laughed out loud when I read that. I have been saying for quite a while that children needed "unstructured break time" (RECESS). They learn to interact with others, to be a team player, to share and just have fun. Children grow up so fast, they need to be children as long as they can. They need to play.
SO, when your little one starts telling you what they did during "wellness initiative" you will know they are talking about good old RECESS!
